A free women’s pamper evening was held last Saturday night at St John’s Hall in Young.
The night was a joint initiative from Catholic Care, Southern General Practice Network and Industry Investment NSW to encourage rural women to take some time out and look after themselves.
Life coach, Diana Bassingwaidhte, and style and image consultant, Sandra Martin, were guest speakers on the night.
Local businesses from the fashion and beauty industries were also invited to showcase their products and share their expertise.
Jewelz ‘n’ Things, Label A, Lorraines Fashion Shop, Doranne Shoes and Accessories, Indulge Beauty Salon, Hair on Zouch, Stemtation and Grove Estate Wines were all involved, offering makeovers, fittings samples and advice and Murringo Public School catered the event.
“A big, big thank you,” said organizer Jenny Sykes, “to the local businesses who supported the event, donating their time and prizes.”
About 30 local women attended the evening and their impressions were all positive.
“It’s great to get out of the house – and away from the men, for a night,” said Narelle Oag.
“They bring out the best in you, as a woman,” said Helen Hill.
The themes of self confidence and self expression were strong throughout the night.
“It’s not about trying to make people wear any particular style, or wear makeup or anything,” said the image consultant, Sandra Martin, “it’s about empowering people to feel good about themselves.”
