Burrangong grass fire

16 Dec, 2009 08:57 AM
TWELVE Rural Fire Service (RFS) tankers responded to a small grass fire on a property at Milly Milly Lane at Burrangong on Saturday afternoon.

RFS Superintendant Trevor Reeves said the response was so strong because there was a big potential for significant damage.

“The initial call we got was for a fast moving grass fire,” said Superintendant Reeves.

“In that area, so close to Young, it could have developed into a very dangerous situation and our response was made to contain the fire very quickly.

“They’re small blocks there and they’re fenced off, which can make flank attacks on fires difficult – the more units you have the easier it is,” he said.

Superintendant Reeves said the response of local units was fantastic.
