LUKE Dickens’ sister Emma lives in Young and is one of his biggest fans. We asked her about her big brother…
Q. How many years between you?
A. There’s two years between me and Luke but we’ve always been close. We didn’t have too much sibling rivalry, However he did love to frighten the life out of me as we were growing up.
Q. I guess you have been voting for him all along in the Idol journey? Have you invested much money in this excercise?
A. Telstra has made a killing out of me throughout the competition, but I figure if a couple of big phone bills can help my brother make a career, it’ll be well worth it! I’ll hit him up for a payout when he’s loaded!
Q. Do you remember him doing much singing when you were kids growing up? A. Luke has only recently begun singing in front of people so I
don’t really have memories of him singing, however he was always listening to music, whistling and tapping his fingers and feet to any
sort of rhythm going.
Q. Are you and your other brothers musical too?
A. I think I missed the musical gene... my three brothers all seem to have it but I must have just got the looks... Luke and Jacob (20) both play the guitar and Isaac (18) plays the piano and will have a go at any musical instrument. I sing but only in my car... it has great acoustics!
Q. Do you all sing?
What about your parents does this musical talent come from in the family?
A. I do have memories of my mum belting out a Patsy Cline number to get us all out of bed on a Saturday morning, but I think Luke’s talent has come from our Grandad, who is a musical genius
in my opinion. He plays any instrument you can give him and has a
beautiful voice.
Q. Did Luke learn a musical instrument?
A. I still have nightmares about our piano lessons when we were little. The teacher loved Luke and hated me. Since then I’ve stuck to the spoons. Luke has taught himself guitar, and tried to teach me, but I was too uncoordinated.
Q. What is it that you like about your brother, and what qualities will help him create a musical career?
A. I’ve just always idolised Luke. I don’t even really know why come to think of it, but he would do anything for me and I’d do anything for him and it’s always been that way. I think the fact that he’s so willing to learn and has improved so much during the course of Australian Idol indicates that he’ll make a great career.
Q. Have you and your family been down to the Idol set, house and concert to date?
A. Yes, we’ve all been to the show a couple of times, but not to the house. The atmosphere at the show is incredible. So much fun!
Q. Will you be there this weekend?
A. I won’t be going this weekend as I need to save my petrol money to go and watch him win the competition the week after!
Q. Have you been visiting Brooke and Jordon (Luke’s partner Brooke and the couple’s premature baby Jordan, who is in hospital in Canberra) ?
A. I’ve seen Brooke and Jordan a couple of times. Brooke is coping so well with everything and I have so much respect for her. She is going to make such a great mum! Jordan is doing really well and I just can’t wait to play with him! I’ve already told him that I’m going to be his favourite person in the world! Must stock up on bribery treats...
