In what has come at the perfect time, Ms Baass’s will hold a spring and summer launch on Melbourne Cup at the home of Gerard and Berenice Hines at Binbilla Vineyard.

In attendance will be guest speaker, Julie Dobinson of Canberra who will speak about her experience with breast cancer.

‘Breast care nurses are specially trained registered nurses who act as patient advocates, coordinating care for women with breast cancer, their families and their carers. They provide accurate information, support and referral to services.’

“We are very fortunate to have the appointment of a breast care nurse for the McGrath Foundation, Nikki Bolger, which is a great benefit to Young and surrounding communities,” Ms Baass said.

The McGrath Foundation was set up by the late Jane McGrath and her cricketing husband Glen after Jane was diagnosed with breast cancer at just 31.

At the time, Jane felt overwhelmed and incredibly lost at the terminology doctors were using and the treatment she was about to endure.

It wasn’t until 2003 when Jane was being treated for secondary cancer that she understood the importance of breast care nurses.

It was like someone ‘to hold your hand through one of the worst nightmares’. It was from this experience, Jane felt every woman diagnosed with breast cancer had access to a nurse.

Jane also believed that raising breast cancer awareness was vital, as she was only 31 when she was diagnosed.

At least 50 per cent of ticket sales will be given to the McGrath Foundation, which aims to support women living with breast cancer.
