First meeting for 2010 relay

02 Nov, 2009 09:01 AM
YOUNG Shire’s Relay For Life is returning in 2010 and volunteers are needed to join the existing organising committee.

Steve Dewar, our Chairperson, is inviting all locals to attend a planning meeting at 6pm on November 2, at the Young Services Club.

“I would like to encourage all interested people to come along on Monday,” Mr Dewar.

“We have a chance to create something special for all those local people diagnosed with cancer each year in Young.”

“I would especially like to extend an invitation to local cancer survivors and carers.

“At the core of Relay For Life is a celebration of survivorship and the importance of honouring those we have lost to the disease,” Mr Dewar said

Relay For Life Relationship Coordinator for the Cancer Council’s southern regional office, Grant Plecas, said Relay For Life is an overnight community fundraising event that spreads a message of hope and support to those affected by cancer

“Last year’s Relay For Life in Young was a wonderful success,” said Mr Plecas.

“I would like to thank all those people who volunteered their time on last year’s committee and welcome back those who are able to assist again this year.”

”The individuals who volunteer their time to help organise Relay For Life play an important role in the fight against cancer.

“There are opportunities available for anyone that would like to be involved and the one common denominator we are looking for is enthusiasm,” said Mr Plecas.
