Former students return to school

23 Oct, 2009 08:17 AM
A group of former Young High School students returned to town over the weekend for their 40-year reunion.

Out of 56 students who completed form 6 in 1969 (which would now be year 12), 36 members of the class were in Young for the get together.

Of the group half a dozen still live around Young — Joanne Wells (nee Cusak); Christine Monaghan (nee Frost); Annette Mellish (nee Locock); Joy (ne Goodman) Norman; Brian Maroney and Chris Manchester

Ex-students travelled from Townsville to the north and Castlemaine to the south.

There was a strong contingent from Sydney, Newcastle and Canberra.

The reunion began on Saturday with a tour of their old school before the group headed out for dinner to catch up on news.

A barbecue breakfast was held at Chinaman’s Dam and the group were very impressed with the facilities and gardens — a great improvement since from 1969!

The ex-students remain very proud of their old school, its traditions and the start it gave them in their careers.
