Hennessy HSC results very impressive

18 Dec, 2009 10:29 AM
HENNESSY Catholic College had very excited students yesterday when University Admissions Index (UAI) were released, following on from HSC results on Wednesday.

Jack McRae was the College’s highest achieving receiving a UAI of 93 and getting band six for three of his subjects physics, chemistry and extension two maths.

The key to success Jack believes is simple.

“I found having a varied lifestyle incorporating sport, music and school helped me to stay on track and achieve my best,” Jack said.

“This was assisted by the smaller class numbers and dedication of teachers at Hennessy Catholic College,” he said.

Jack is now going to spend the next year working, preparing himself for university in 2011 at the University of NSW in Sydney, studying engineering.

The success has continued for Jack, after receiving a $4000 scholarship to assist with the many expenses university presents.

Jessica Bunworth has spent the last two years travelling from Cootamundra to complete her senior schooling years, and it appears the many kilometres she has done has paid off after being named DUX of year 12, 2009.

Jess received a UAI of 92.6 and now hopes to pursue a career in occupational therapy in Newcastle next year.

“I’m very pleased with my results because they are a lot higher than anticipated and I believe that Sacred Heart provided me with the building blocks for my HSC and the support from the teachers at the College enabled me to reach my full potential,” Jess said.

Hannah Minehan expected to get a UAI in the 80s but has outdone her expectations achieving in the 90s.

Hannah achieved band six marks for hospitality, maths and studies of religion one unit assisting her to get a UAI of 91.45 and leaving Hannah a little surprise.

“Yeah I’m really happy with them, the teachers are dedicated to our education and that assisted me with my marks,” Hannah said.

Next year, Hannah is one of the four students who has been accepted in the gap year with the Army and is still deciding what she wants to do after that year.

She has received an offer from Wollongong but would like to pursue a course in Sydney.

Assistant principal, curriculum, David Johns said the marks at Hennessy were impressive.

“They have just blown us out of the water,” Mr Johns said.

Joining Jack, Jess and Hannah in the top five marks at Hennessy was Roisin Carmody and Brooke Kaveney.

Hennessy Catholic College principal, Brother Christopher Peel said students are making the most of those opportunities presented.

“Students are maximising their potential and that is what Hennessy is all about,” Brother Peel said.

“It is about the balance for academic pathways and vocational pathways.

“This is proof that small regional schools can succeed,” he said.
