Ask Luke when he plans to get back into the sheds and take up his shears and you’ll find he has no specific date in mind.

“I will be spending a week off, no matter what, with my little boy and Brooke, and during that week I’ll be thinking about writing some songs really,” he says.

Luke, who survived his closest shave yet on Monday night when he was relegated to the bottom half of the six remaining contestants, reckons he has gained plenty of material over the past crammed weeks.

There has been the premature birth of his son, his inability to be by the side of his partner during the birth and the worrying weeks vigil in the intensive care nursery, and all the amazing experiences he has had since being selected in the top 20 Australian Idol contestants.

“I have written plenty of letters and listened to plenty of music… maybe I could put two and two together,” he tantalizes.

The couple has received strong support from family friends and the Young community, but he has drawn criticism from some magazine experts who have claimed he should have pulled out of Idol to be with his partner and be present for the birth.

It’s not something that Luke’s getting into really, just saying he and Brooke Rodger are reconciled to the situation and he is so busy fulfilling his schedule that he hasn’t had time to read the comments.

“It would be a shame to come home early, but if it happens it is going to be deserved.”

This week has been another busy one for the local shearer who has been working on his new Michael Jackson song, and singing for a McDonalds promo with the remaining contestants.

He found the experience of being in the bottom three singers “pretty nervy”, and his respect for the skills of his fellow contestants is evident.
