IN mass raids all over Young on Monday morning Operation ‘Lock Up Your Boss’ ran like clockwork and according to PCYC manager, Kelly Slater was a complete success as a fundraiser.
“It was a brilliant day,” said Ms Slater.
“No-one resisted and it was the funniest day I have had for a long time.
“I was absolutely amazed at the ability of this town’s business people to embrace this, laugh at themselves and make those all important phone calls to raise funds for us.
“It was really interesting to hear them make their calls; they were ringing their friends who were other business people, so we involved a wider section of the community than only those who were locked up.
“We also have new PCYC Police in town too, so it was a good chance for everyone to meet them as well,” said Ms Slater.
The PCYC is currently fundraising for a 22 seater bus and Lock Up Your Boss Day has raised over $4500 for the cause. Bosses nominated by their staff were locked up in the small ‘cell’ that is the portico of Bargwanna & Gerrard in Boorowa Street. Each was given a mobile phone and each had to raise at least $250 before they could get out – and staff or friends could pay to keep them in longer – there was the smell of blood in the water!
Pedestrians were not safe either. When our smiling Mayor strolled along the street (no doubt to poke a little fun at council general manager, Peter Vlatko, who he thought was still in the cage), he was handed a mobile phone and promptly thrown in the clink!
Ms Slater said there were 18 bosses who were locked up on the day and the funds were raised in less than four hours.
“This event is pretty popular and is about to be adopted by the NSW Youth Week Institution as an annual event,” said Ms Slater.
