No stabbing in Young

03 Jul, 2009 09:55 AM
INSPECTOR John Sheehan from Young Police has said there was no stabbing in Young last Saturday morning.

Insp Sheehan said that police allege at about 3:30am on Saturday, June 27, two males aged 20 and 24 years-old were walking along Nasmyth Street in Young when they were confronted by a 34 year-old male and a 24 year-old male. All the men are from Young, one previously lived in Stockinbingal for a brief period.

One of the victims was allegedly struck with a Jim Beam bottle and hit with a length of timber, both victims were attacked and repeatedly punched by the offenders.

Police then allege the victims managed to get to their feet and run to a nearby unit block in Nasmyth Street where they sought refuge from the two offenders who were chasing them along the street.

Insp Sheehan said police allege that one of the offenders then kicked the door to the unit open in an attempt to gain entry to the unit, while the other offender threw a pot plant through the window of a nearby unit.

Police and an ambulance were called to the scene and one of the victims was taken to Young Hospital and later transported to Canberra Hospital in a serious condition, with a broken wrist and broken ribs and a suspected torn liver.

Police subsequently found a knife on the scene which they allege was being carried by one of the offenders but it was not used in the attack.

Both offenders will now face the same charges of: Wound with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, affray, and two counts of aggravated break and enter with intent to cause an indictable offence.

Both offenders have been refused bail.

This information was provided to The Young Witness on Thursday afternoon, after the ongoing police investigation had been completed, charges had been laid and an accurate account of what really happened could be given.

We thank the New South Wales Police for their co-operation.
