FIRST impressions are priceless and that is why people like Joshua Scott could be considered as the face and personality of Young.
Mr Scott is usually the first person many of our visitors meet upon arrival, and the influence he has on those people’s perception of this town is possibly least considered but invaluable nonetheless.
Well, Mr Scott finishes his employment with the Tourist Information Centre today after almost two years as a tourism officer with the Young Shire Council and he said he has really enjoyed the work at the centre.
“The experience of this job has been very good,” said Mr Scott.
“It’s a spectrum of work that involves public relations, events management, retail management and customer service, which is a big part of the job.
“It’s been great working with people from all over the World, and their numbers have been increasing.
“I’ll be leaving Young to attend a seminary in Homebush where I’ll be studying for seven years, which is not actually going to be a walk in Anderson Park but it is going to be really interesting.
“I hope to be ordained as a catholic priest in 2017, which sounds like a long time, but it will fly.
“It is a bit of a change in career, but then there is a difference between a career and a calling.
“This hasn’t been an easy decision to make, it involved a lot of prayer, thought and inner exploration, I made the decision in May and after that I knew it was the right commitment.
“Some people have said to me that you have to live first before doing something like this.
“For me this is not an end, it is a beginning,” said Mr Scott.
