Young Brigade still seeks applications

03 Jul, 2009 09:58 AM
YOUNG’S Fire Station is still looking towards an upgrade of numbers and is still accepting applications for up to four new recruits on a retained, part-time basis.

Captain Stan Reimer of the New South Wales Fire Brigade said he has had a really good reaction to the previous article run by The Young Witness and has been more than pleased by the number of applications he has received so far from predominately male applicants.

“As I have said previously we are after people who are fit and interested,” said Capt Reimer.

“But by no means does that exclude female applicants, we have retained part-time female officers in Yass, Goulbourn, Wagga and in more than a few stations in Sydney.

“I just feel perhaps there may be female applicants out there who may be very suited to this job, but who have not applied because they consider it to be a male occupation; nothing could be further from the truth, not in this service in this day and age.

Applications for the positions close at the end of July and Capt Reimer said he is encouraging people to get their applications in as soon as possible.

“Applicants would have to be willing to undergo a medical and police checks, paid for by the Service, as are all uniforms and training.

“We’re looking for people who have good daytime availability, who are very community minded and female applicants should not be put off from applying if they meet the selection criteria,” said Capt Reimer.

Anyone interested in applying for one of these positions should either contact Capt Stan Reimer on 0417 899 688 or Region South Office, Auburn Street, Goulburn on 4822 9395.
