THERE was a very good attendance on Saturday afternoon with 41 players involved.

This included a small number of visitors and they came from a very wide area – Bulli, Bathurst, Forbes and Perth.

In the Minor Singles, Jack Forbutt defeated Henk Hoven 31–24, Colin Stokell defeated Tony Ruhl 31–13 and Leon Sharp defeated Darryle Miller 31–24.

The winning teams in the non-championship games were Ron Dawe and Frank O’Brien (2), Col Powell and Col Chapman (3), Ian Schofield and George Somerville (1), Ron Bennett and Tom Preston (6), Chankhe Tamang and Bill Clark (6), Trevor Howell, Peter Slater and Joe Chambers (1), and B Carson, Reg Hayes and Stewart Taylor (5).

Sunday morning saw 20 players taking part and Chris Wright, Tim Carpenter and Gordon Gee had the winning score with a total of 19 points.

On Sunday afternoon Jack Forbutt and Ian Schofield led by 14–4 halfway through their game of Minor Pairs against Henk Hoven and Colin Stokell and despite the lead being reduced to just 4 shots with 4 ends to play Ian and Jack went on to win 22–13.

Once again there was quite a contrast in the number of mid-week bowlers with just eight on Tuesday and 22 on Thursday.

Noel Maloney and Peter Druett had the best score on Tuesday with 17 points.

The clear-cut winners on Thursday were Clem Holman and Les Fanning with a margin of 12 shots.

The next best margin was four shots for Lindsay Nicolls, Joe Bargwanna and Mark Norton.

The $200 jackpot was not won.

A total of 70 players enjoyed the very pleasant conditions for Business House Bowls on Wednesday night.

The Family Affair team were the winners for the evening with the very big score of 21 points. Runners-up with 19 points were the Young Trash Paks B team.

Play in Tuesday night’s Charity Challenge saw Nobby’s Nuts, Fishoes and Dolphins all record wins on both rinks.

The best performed individual team consisted of Billy Louttit, Vince Behler and Damien Miller representing Young Bowling Club.

There was no play on Thursday night due to the storm.

The Zone 8 inter–district competition for the Bing Wallder Shield was conducted at Albury on Saturday and Sunday.

The side representing Wagga and District won four of their five games to be the overall winners.

They had two very close calls in the first two rounds defeating South Western by two shots and Southern Slopes by two shots. Their next two games saw much bigger winning margins before they lost the final game to Albury.

The South Western side defeated Southern Highlands and Riverina and lost narrowly to Wagga and Southern Slopes. They also lost to Albury.

The team of Brett Penyu, Graeme Edgerton, Geoff Holt and Peter Watts did well with three wins, a draw and a loss by two shots.

The winner for the competition for teams of officials was the Albury and District team.

Play in the Mixed Pairs Championship starts on Saturday afternoon with four games scheduled. There will be a further four games on Sunday morning with the semi-finals to be played on Sunday afternoon. All the details are on the notice board.

The annual game against visitors from Condobolin will take place on Saturday afternoon. This will be in conjunction with Jackpot Bowls for which the jackpot is $200 and players are advised that dress will be casual.

On Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th November the club will host visiting mixed bowlers from Dubbo. There will be mixed bowls on both Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning. All players are encouraged to support this visit by playing on one or both occasions.

Men’s Bowls on Thursday afternoon will see a jackpot of $200.

The night bowls competitions will continue on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nights.

Sunday morning bowls will start at 9.30am with entries closing at 9.15am.

The Phat Boyz will be playing at the club on Saturday night and Christmas dinner will be available at a cost of $30 per person. Bookings are required for the dinner.
