New year’s go-karting action at Grenfell

05 Feb, 2010 09:26 AM
THIS weekend will see the start of what is shaping to be a busy year for the Grenfell Kart Club.

This weekend will see the first of seven club rounds for the year.

In April we will host Round 3 of the Southern Zone series which is turning out to be one of the most anticipated series in the state.

In July the club will hold the third annual Bob Hinde Memorial “Festival of the Kids” which is rapidly gaining recognition and interest from the eastern states.

This year we are building to what we hope will be a meeting that will attract 150 karts and upwards, a feat that has not been reached in the country karting community since the 2002 Junior State Titles held in Grenfell.

The year has already been off to a busy start with club members working hard on improving the facilities we have.

Over the coming weekend, several committee members will travel to Sydney to hear first hand whether the funding for the resurfacing of the Bogalong circuit is approved by the State Karting Council.

If this comes off, it will put the Grenfell club in good stead for the next 10-15 years.

A very exciting prospect for the Grenfell club and the Grenfell community.

It has been said go-karts have the same or if not better power-to-weight ratio than a V8 Supercar and as much downward pressure as a Formula 1 car.

Not bad considering a seven-year-old is eligible to drive these karts.

In fact, insurance companies’ studies have shown kids that have grown up racing karts are more unlikely to be involved in accidents than kids who haven’t.

Kart racing is for everyone, as young as seven and as old as, well, till your body just can’t handle it.

People say kart racing is expensive - it is only as expensive as you make it.

You can have just as much fun if not more than the regular weekend pro. There are not many other places you can go 120kph just one inch off the ground.

If there are any old club members or karters that have moved into the area, that might have karts sitting in the shed, we have many prospective karters interested in finding the right kart to get started.

Whether they might be from the 1970s or today’s karts, if you’ve got one we are interested.

Contact Ryan Galvin or come for a drive on Sunday and have a look.

Sunday will start the year off with a first round of the club championship.

For this time of year, Bogalong circuit is looking a treat.

It is situated 9km from Grenfell, out the Forbes Road.

We have received interest for the weekend from surrounding clubs including Canberra, Wagga Wagga, Griffith, Dubbo and Orange with several young midget karters travelling from Sydney for the weekend.

Racing will commence at approximately 10am, canteen facilities will be available all day and entry is FREE so bring the kids out and watch some great racing.
