And their recent performances at this year’s Sydney Royal Easter Show has been the cherry on the cake.
From Grand Nationals at the end of April and Sydney Royal Show on April 12-14 to local championships, six riders - Tahlia Wells, Tori Wall, Brooke Stevenson, Bridget Sell, Bridey Gibson and Caitlin Brown - have given it their all.
And the result? Outstanding!
Following a top 10 placing in the Leading Rein Pony class at Grand Nationals in Sydney last month, six-year-old Bridey Gibson, her pony “Bamborough Prunella” and handler David Hall came away with some impressive achievements at the Sydney Royal Show.
Bridey and “Bamborough Prunella” came fifth in the Leading Rein Pony out of 27 entries while Bridey’s pony went on to win the Novice Pony, Open Pony and Ridden Welsh.
A great achievement for a pony aged seven-years-old.
Penny Gibson’s hack “Concept”, who competed at Sydney for the first time, came home with a fifth place in the Novice Hack, Ridden ANSA and the Crane Trophy.
The Gibson’s were over the moon with these achievements and would like to thank Tori Wall, and Matthew and David Hall.
The Bathurst Royal Show was the last show for “Bamborough Prunella” this season, and it turned out to be another successful one, coming away with a first place in the Leading Rein Pony.
This win qualified the very successful trio again for Grand National next year.
“Bamborough Prunella” also placed second in the Welsh Leading Rein, first in the First Ridden Welsh and first in the Open Ridden Welsh.
The Gibson family says a big thank you to Phoebe O’Conner for Berrima who rode “Bamborough Prunella” for the first time to win both her classes.
Eleven-year-old Tori Wall had a successful Sydney Royal experience, riding a range of ponies (Bamborough Prunella, Avlon Erian, Baronia Carousel and Tara Park Lilli).
She came away with three firsts, two seconds and two thirds.
Tori also rode her own galloway Lydena Realm to place seventh in Turnout Class 9 under 12 years and place top 10 in the Girl Rider 9 under 12 years out of 30 riders.
Tori would like to take the opportunity to thank her instructor Sue Walker who has been instructing her since the age of 5, Tracie Wells for her support and kind words when things don't go to plan, the owners of the ponies who she has been lucky enough to ride and of course mum and dad who travel all over NSW to compete.
Tahlia Wells and “Daydream Believer” have had more amazing results at the Sydney Royal Easter Show with amazing results.
This horse and rider combination has forged an amazing partnership with incredible success over just a short period of time.
Tahlia and “Daydream Beliver”, also known as “Barney” have just returned home from some very strong and competitve events.
These include Grand Nationals, Equestrian Australia Horse of The Year and Sydney Royal, with the Easter show having been where Tahlia and Barney claimed their most success.
Tahlia was declared Reserve Champion Senior Girl Rider 12-17 years and also won the Mount Rider and Equipment Class 12 and under 15 years.
At just 14-years-old, Tahlia did an incredible job to take her beautiful hunter hack to second in the Working Hunter Horse over 16hh against a strong field and narrowly missing out on the winning title.
They won third in the Novice Hunter Hack over 16hh and fifth in the Open Show Hunter Hack 16hh-16.2hh.
Tahlia and her big grey gelding have grown from strength to strength, with the help and guidance of her mother’s wise words, strong family support and help of her riding instructor Sue Walker - who Tahlia would like to thank for contributing to her success.
Bridget Sell, riding “Alkyra Elegance”, came seventh in the Open Hack 15 - 15.2hh, fourth Ridden ANSA 15 - 16hh and fourth Led ANSA mare.
Bridget was awarded fifth in her lady rider class and “Universal Law” was placed sixth in the Open Show Hunter Hack over 16.2hh.
Caitlin Brown and her horse “Boonhill Ace” have had two amazing weeks of riding and competition which saw Caitlin and Ace qualify for their first Sydney Royal Show.
It was an experience of a lifetime for the pair and, although they didn't receive a ribbon, they were called in with the elite to show their talent.
Caitlin and Ace performed really well and the support they received from the Young team was amazing!
They came home from Sydney to then win the 15-17 age group at the Young Pony Club open Gymkhana where Caitlin was named the junior champion at the IGA Dressage Championships in Bendick Murrell.
The pair have become a formidable team together and able to have a go at most disciplines.
Caitlin would personally like to thank Tracie and Tahlia Wells, the Blake family, and her mum and dad - as without the help of these people, she wouldn't be acheiving her goals, and ticking off her bucket list!
Brooke, Christine and Alex Stevenson competed successfully with their team of two ponies at the Sydney Royal.
“Bamborough Memorize's” debut proved to be successful, taking home two first placings - Reserve Champion Led Partbred APSB and Reserve Champion Ridden Partbred APSB.
“Bamborough September Song's” very successful career with the Stevenson family was capped off with two first placings and two fifth placings amongst strong competiton.
Song has now retired to stud to breed future superstars.
Her career included several Royal Show Supreme Championships, several state titles, a few national championships and countless wins at local and interstate shows.
Song also took home a Supreme Champion and several championships at the recent National Pony of the Year Show in Sydney.
Brooke, Christine and Alex would like to thank everyone for their support during Song's career, and look forward to their up and coming stars of the future, even though they will dearly miss showing Song.
