TWO of Young’s junior rugby players recently spent some of their holidays at a Brumbies Talent Development Camp, honing their skills and rubbing shoulders with some of the game’s best.
Brendan Shoard and Seth Stoltenberg were in Canberra at the AIS from January 20-22 and took to the field against some of the best 15-17-year-old players from around the country under the guidance of the Brumbies’ development officers.
The Young High School students were chosen from among 400 entrants after supplying a resume of their rugby achievements, the final invitational group being whittled down to just 70.
Split into four teams, the groups began the camp with skills testing and ball work before moving onto fuller-contact drills before graduating to full-sided games between the four teams on the final day.
The camp allowed both to play in their preferred positions, Shoard at number eight and Stoltenberg at five-eighth, and during the camp both were able to have a chat with the likes of Stirling Mortlock, Matt Giteau, George Smith and Stephen Hoiles.
Both Shoard and Stoltenberg said they had been able to learn a lot from the camp, having come up against the best and biggest of their age.
