FOUR games of cricket were played on Saturday for the Criterion Cup, in the first match of the day Blues played Boorowa at Boorowa. Having won the toss Boorowa elected to bat.
Top scorers for Boorowa were B. Shean (18), R. George (19) and J. Banks (14). Shean was Caught and bowled by K. Schofield, George was caught by L. Kimber from the bowling of D. Keir and Banks was caught by J. Goodwin from the bowling of B. Slater.
There were nine sundries and Boorowa was all-out for 90 Runs . The most successful bowlers for the Blues were K. Schofield who bowled eight overs, two maidens and took three wickets for 21 runs. D. Schofield bowled six overs, one maiden and took two wickets for 16 runs and L. Kimber bowled six overs, one maiden and took two for twenty runs.
The Blues made short work of Boorowa’s total with B. Spring scoring 28 runs before being caught by M. Armour from the bowling of C. Turner and D. Schofield was bowled by R. George after scoring 40 runs.
R. Bennett and C. Turner had the best bowling results for Boorowa, Bennett bowled four overs, no maidens and took two for 26 while Turner took two for nine runs from only 2.1 overs.
Turner (3 points), George (2 points) and (Bennett (1 point) were best and fairest for Boorowa and for the Blues were D. Schofield (3 points), Spring (2 points) and K Schofield (1 point).
In the second match of the round Clubs played the Bears at Gus Smith Oval. The Bears won the toss and sent Clubs in to bat.
C. Martin (45) D. Morris (26) and M Cuppitt (Not out 14) were the best scorers for Clubs who were all out 118. Bowling figures for the Bears included four overs from A. McIllhatton who took three wickets for 24 runs, K. Baker bowled five overs, one maiden and took two wickets for 13 runs and J. Brewster, who bowled four overs and took 2 wickets for nine runs.
The Bears run chase began well with W. Robinson scoring 23 runs for the bears before he was caught by G Hennock from the bowling of J. Hennock, Brewster came in at number three for the Bears and remained not out for 40 runs.
L. Hurum also scored a handy 33 before he was caught by C. Ronan.
Clubs bowlers took a bit of a mauling with T. Fletcher bowling eight overs and taking one for 42 runs, C. Hambrook bowled seven overs, one maiden and took two for 25 runs while J. Hennock bowled eight overs and took one for 31.
There were 13 sundries and the Bears won the match by five wickets with a score of 125.
Best and fairest players for the Clubs were Martin (3 points), C. Hambrook (2 points) and J. Hennock (1 point) and for the Bears J. Brewster (3 points), Hurcum (2 points) and McIllhatton (1 point).
Keith Cullen Oval was the venue for the match between the Coyotes and the Shamrocks. The coyotes won the toss and elected to bat.
G. Palmer led the Coyote assault with a firm opening knock of 136 before being caught by D. Gerrard from the bowling of G Cooper. Z. Maxwell chipped in with a handy 42 runs before being caught by C. Kuhm from the bowling of C. Cooper and S. Langford produced a handy 31 runs before being bowled by G. L’estrange. There were 6 sundries and the coyotes were all out for a very respectable 268 runs.
M. Jollife was the most successful bowler for the Shamrocks taking two wickets for 38 runs off four overs. P. Jollife bowled eight overs, one maiden and claimed two wickets for 56 runs and C. Cooper bowled eight overs, tow for 48.
L’estrange opened the batting for the Shamrocks and scored a handy 36 before being stumped by Ashton from the bowling of Maxwell. M. McAnespie remained not out on 54 but he was the only other Shamrock batsmen to reach good double figures as the side were finally all out for 172.
Maxwell and Langford were the best of the Coyotes bowlers, both bowled eight overs and both took four wickets, with Maxwell yielding 53 runs while only 25 were gained from Langford.
Best and fairest points for the Coyotes went to Palmer (3 points), Maxwell (2points) and Langford (1 point) and for the Shamrocks McAnespie (3 points), L’estrange (2 points) and Cooper (1 point).
JRL and the Services Young Ones played the fourth match of the day at Sawpit Gully with JRL winning the toss and electing to bat. They were all out for 44 runs. Their highest scoring batsman scored 15 runs and 19 sundries contributed to more than half the score.
J. Corbett was the best bowler for Services on the day, taking 5 wickets from five overs for the loss of 20 runs.
L. Cosgrove remained not out for 25 runs as Services Young Ones as they quickly ran down JRL’s total.
For JRL A. Maxwell bowled five overs, one maiden and took one for 15 while T. Mulquinney bowled one over and took one for six runs.
Best and fairest points went to W. Hurcum (3 points), A Maxwell (2 points) and N. Hart (1 point) for JRL and J. Corbett (3 points), L. Cosgrove (2 points) and R Scelly (1 point) for Services Young Ones.
