THE Young Saints will be without one of their key players for the 2010 season after young ruckman Kane Morris was recruited to AFL Canberra side Ainslie.
The 20-year-old is set to make the move to the nation’s capital after impressing at a two-week trial with the club set up by former Saints coach Allan Payne.
Finishing the trial on Friday, Morris was notified by Ainslie coach Chris Rourke last Wednesday that the club would like to have him on board with the first grade side and see how he performs in the upcoming season.
Morris, who is in just his fourth season of AFL, said he is excited about the prospect of playing with Ainslie and would like to hopefully one day play at the top level.
“Yeah, it’s something I’d like to do, I’ve got this chance now and I’m going to take it while I’m young, I’ll try my best and try and take it as far as I can,” Morris said.
While missing two months of Ainslie’s pre-season training left him a little behind in fitness, Morris said he felt he had matched with the other players on the field, the three weekly training sessions plus fitness regime bringing out his best footy.
While there are only six teams in the first grade division of the competition, Morris said the quality of football is high - the Sydney Swans reserves side also play in the competition.
