Shepherd selected in Aussie masters team

02 Nov, 2009 09:05 AM
LOCAL hockey player Peter Shepherd has recently learned of his selection to play for Australia in an over 55s team which will play a series of matches against New Zealand in May next year at Newcastle.

Shepherd had been representing ACT in that division of the Australian Veterans Championships recently conducted in Melbourne and was selected on his performances at that tournament.

An integral member of the Bears team in the local South West Slopes Credit Union hockey competition, Peter has had a busy schedule this season.

Besides playing in the local competition and representative matches for Young, Shepherd has also been playing for Queanbeyan in a mid-week competition in Canberra as well as representing Goulburn/ACT at the New South Wales over 50s Veterans Championships earlier in the year.

Originally from Crookwell, Shepherd commenced playing in Young in 2004 after a representative career which saw him play for both Crookwell and Goulburn and ultimately gain selection in New South Wales Country teams at senior level.
