LAVINGTON made the long journey to Young on Sunday in what were very heavy conditions at Alfred Oval.
By the time first grade took to the field the ground was like a mud bath but this did not stop both teams from playing some good, hard footy.
In the first half Young had very little football due to the pin point accuracy of Joe Williams’ kicking game and with the ground very heavy he was still able to produce the best game of kicking I’ve seen for a while.
At one stage I think we had three consecutive line drop outs.
To Young’s credit we still went to the break only 20 points and with the amount of possession and field possession that Lavington had it could quite easily have 30 or more.
The second half was much the same as the first with both teams very committed in defence.
Once again a few handling errors and a couple of lapses in defence resulted in some simple tries to Lavington.
When we were able to control the ball with good field position we were then in a position to mount some good pressure on the Lavington line.
In doing this we managed to cross the line for a four-pointer.
Although the score finished up at 42-4 it was certainly a spirited effort by the boys, at no stage did anyone give up and it was a very committed effort right to the final siren.
Young were best served by Kyle Richens, Jake Nowlan and Steven Shipp but as I said, a committed effort from all.
