These two teams have met many times in finals over the past several years and each game was a tight, intense and, even at times, fiery encounter.
The two meetings this year in the 40 over format were split. Coyotes dominated Round One at Cranfield Oval with the Blues striking back at Alfred Oval in the second game.
With nothing but net run rate separating these two teams at the conclusion of the preliminary rounds, let’s look at both teams more closely.
Commercial Coyotes: Their strength is undoubtedly with their bowling.
Featuring an attack containing McGovern, Irvine, Humphreys, Tierney and Scelly, the Coyotes are the most well rounded attack in the competition.
Their batting, however, can let them down at times.
Over the past years they have been very reliant on captain Geoff Palmer to score the bulk of their runs and when he fails they can be prone to a huge collapse. Their batters will really need to focus and try and build partnerships.
Palmer will really want to win this toss and bowl first as the majority of their wins this year have come via a dominant effort from their bowlers followed by a relatively easy run chase.
Services Club Blues: Unlike the last few years, the Blues have been able to maintain a full team throughout the season.
The Blues are a well rounded team with their strength being ever so slightly in their batting.
With a solid opening partnership of Croese and Kelly, they usually get off to a steady start which allows Young’s leading batter this year, Josh Platt, to accelerate the minute he comes to the crease.
The middle order of Druett, Jones, Schofield and Duran have shown in recent weeks that they are capable of building partnerships and building on the great starts.
The Blues bowling, with the exception of Platt, has shown at times that they can be vulnerable whilst at other times brilliant.
Skipper Schofield will bat if he wins the toss – or will he?
It is tough to pick a winner in this game. The key for both teams will be early wickets which will put immense pressure on the middle orders.
For Coyotes, they need to see off Platt and build steady partnerships.
For the Blues the key will be removing Palmer early and exposing their sometimes brittle batting order.
With the bat, Blues must show a little patience and work the ball around.
Whichever way this games goes, it is sure to be very entertaining.
Good luck to both teams and well done on a great season.
Here are the lineups for B Grade grand final to be played at Gus Smith One.
A Grade by the way is at Alfred Oval. Both start at 1pm.
Boorowa take on Power
In the Empire Cup B Grade grand final to be played this Saturday afternoon at Gus Smith Oval, Boorowa will be looking to make it two in a row against the Great Eastern Power.
It promises to be a great clash with both teams containing some very talented cricketers.
In the Boorowa team, Sam Lynam and the Dwyer brothers possess a lot of talent and any one of those could steal the game if they are at their best.
They have shown at times throughout the season that they are very capable of matching it with the best, upsetting A Grade grand finalists Coyotes in the second half of the season.
The Great Eastern Power are also packed with potential game breakers. Smithy Goodman, Duncan Cameron, Will Hurcum and Nathan Anderson are all very talented cricketers.
Add in Jayson Smith, Nathin Shetty and the experience of the Miller brothers and you have a very tough team to beat.
Congratulations to both teams on making the B Grade grand final and may the best team win on the day.
