Mayor Stuart Freudenstein announced on Monday Mr Vlatko had been offered a contract for a further four years.
The offer came out of an extra-ordinary meeting of council held last Friday and at the conclusion of Mr Vlatko’s previous five year contract.
“Council is very pleased that Peter is continuing on in the position that he commenced in August 2008,” the mayor said.
“Young Shire is very fortunate to have a general manager of proven ability and experience who shares the passion for our community.”
Mr Vlatko said he was very excited to be chosen to continue in his role.
“The council and community have a bright future and the people here make a difference,” he said.“I’ve enjoyed my time here so far – together we can make a difference and continue the momentum going forward.”
Mr Vlatko started in local government as a trainee accountant at Broken Hill in 1976, before becoming an assistant accountant at Maitland City Council.
He later became deputy town clerk in Cobar then deputy general manager and general manager in the South Australian town of Stirling.
He was chief executive officer of Campbelltown City Council, then worked in private enterprise before taking on the role in Young.
“I love working with people and for people… it’s rewarding,” Mr Vlatko said.
“One of the reasons why I chose to continue on in Young is because of the people but also the staff.
“There is a committed mob here that wants to learn and grow – that makes my job easier – when we’ve got good people.”
Cr Freudenstein said Mr Vlatko’s experience would be invaluable during a time local government reform is developing and significant changes are expected across the state.
“Stable management especially in these times is very important and Peter’s reappointment confirms this,” he said.
“Young Shire’s future has great promise in many areas and with Peter continuing in his role this positive direction continues.”
