David Newberry is coming to us from Dubbo City Council, where he held the position of Visitors Information Centre manager and marketing and website coordinator.
He holds a Bachelor’s degree with honours in European tourism management from the University of Lincoln, UK, moving from England to Australia in 2008 where he continued to shine throughout his chosen field in tourism and marketing.
“I am thrilled to be given this opportunity to work with Young Shire Council and the region and am looking forward to embracing all the opportunities that lie ahead,” David said.
“I look forward to working with the council and regional communities in creating the next forward move for such a dynamic region.
“[I] will hit the ground running in ongoing development of strategic tourism and destination management planning for the Young Shire.”
Prior to his service in Dubbo, David became well acquainted with the Young Shire through his role as events promotions officer with the Cowra Tourism Corporation.
David’s passion in tourism and marketing was first realised through his career in England and included roles as marketing communication coordinator for the Arts Council of England and marketing and public relations officer for Ireland through VisitBritain.
Young Shire Council general manager Peter Vlatko has welcomed the appointment.
“We are excited David has accepted our offer to join the Council team and look forward to his input in this next phase of tourism development for our Shire,” he said.
Council received a high level of interest in the position, which they attributed to the reputation of the shire.
