A STRONG turnout of local people and visitors from Sydney and Harden on Sunday for the Boer War Day memorial ceremony in Anderson Park.

The inaugural event, hosted by the Young sub-branch of the Returned and Services League (RSL) has been hailed a success by local RSL president John Walker.
Mr Walker presided over the ceremony and was supported by John Watson - whose relatives Oswald and Vivian Watson served in the war - gave a precis of the Boer War campaigns.
A wreath laying ceremony formed part of the proceedings which concluded with a morning tea in the park.
Mr Walker said afterwards the number of people attending was better than he expected.
And he is full of enthusiasm for the number of names that have come to the RSL’s attention as a result of the event.
“We hope that we will get enough names of local people who served by the time we hold the ceremony next year,” he said.
He hopes that the local sub-branch will, at that stage, be able to unveil a new plaque containing all the names of local men who had served in the Boer War.
