This weekend sees the Under 17s and Opens Rep side travel to Baulkham Hills to compete in the state championships for 2013.
We have seen their progress over the past six months and we know they will do their town proud when they represent Young over this long weekend.
From the Young and District Netball Association and the town itself we wish these ladies all the successes over the weekend.
They say time flies when you’re having fun and I have to admit this is true when it came to this year’s rep season for the Under 11s.
In the past couple of months the girls have travelled to five carnivals starting with Queanbeyan where they came away on the day with a few wins under their belts and the motivation to excel in the next carnival.
They all played well with Rachael and Brooke playing all different positions and shining in them all from defender to attacker they worked hard.
Next we stayed at home and played in the Young carnival.
Playing on grass was a bit of a new experience for the girls.
But the excitement and energy that Molly, in attack and shooter, and TJ, as our tallest defender, showed from game one was addictive with all the girls passing, defending and shooting their little hearts out.
Next on the agenda was Bathurst.
A nice early morning saw the girls a little slow to start but five minutes in they found their legs.
The games were tight and entertaining, and the small amount of rain did nothing to dampen their sprits.
Courtney’s defensive moves and Sarah’s shooting were highlights of the day.
Then there was Forbes.
Hannah was a star shooting most of the day and amazed a lot of us with her long range shots.
Bridie was an angel playing whilst ill with a nasty bug, but as usual she didn’t let anything get the best of her.
Our next early morning was Wagga.
This was our hardest carnival with game on game off all day and back to back slotted in just to challenge the girls.
Gypsy absolutely shined with her centre court moves, helping the defenders get the ball down to the attacking end and then turning up to be there for the shooters when needed as well.
With the girls being placed third and fourth in all the carnivals so far, our next two trips to Parkes and Cootamundra will see them shine and bust a move to hit those elusive first and second spots.
A huge thanks has to go to the beautiful mums and dads and sisters that travel to all our carnivals with us to cheer and encourage the girls with all they do.
To the umpires that have travelled with us, thank you for everything.
And a special thanks to Katelyn, you make the job of coaching so much easier.
Thanks for the great times.
Amanda Nicolls.
