Despite a wet start, the teams hit the paddock with vim and vigour.
The Young Yabbies Under 7s had another stellar week on the paddock in Grenfell.
This week we played Tumut and Cootamundra and, in both games, the team displayed their developing ball and communication skills.
Most importantly they are working well as a team as they start to seek and fill gaps in defence and attack without direction while showing great sportsmanship toward each other and the opposition.
The team was split across two fields to give the players a better run and chance of touching the ball with great results and enjoyment.
Rugby newcomer Jack Lane played his best games yet while Poppy Nuthall’s desperate lunges kept the opposition at bay and her on the ground.
Tries to almost everyone!
The first game saw the Under 11s take on Tumut in heavy conditions.
The game took a while to fire up, with only one try in the first half from Archie Bolger.
The second half saw a better effort with great pick and drive from Will Cameron earning him a try.
Another second half try got the score to 17-0.
Other outstanding performances were from Bene Bonsembiante and Fergus Back for strong running and Ethan Newham for great ball distribution.
Three points went to Will Cameron, two to Archie Bolger and one to Declan Telfer.
The second game was delayed, which meant extra time for the boys to play red rover cross over and to use a bit of energy up.
Unfortunately we came up against Cootamundra who not having played a game were pumped.
Going two tries to one up in the first half, the Yabbies seemed to be going okay with determined runs from Bene Bonsembiante and Oscar Nuthall.
The second half saw the boys run out of puff with Cootamundra scoring three unanswered tries to win the game 22-12.
If not for some desperate tackling by Thomas Telfer, the score would have been double that, so training on Friday night will concentrate on some around the legs tackling.
Three points went to Bene Bonsembiante, two to Thomas Telfer and one to Oscar Nuthall.
The Under 15s first game was against Grenfell. The Yabbies were a bit slow to get into the game – maybe the wet conditions hampered their style.
After five or so minutes, they got back into the normal groove with momentum up the middle provided by our forwards Ben Hegyi, Connor Woods and the ‘Never say die man’, Johnno Davis.
This allowed our backs to move the ball around and to spin it out wide for our wingers Jarrod and Brent to outrun their opponents.
Tom Hurley slotted in well as our new halfback. while our impact player, Riley Turner, coming on after 15 minutes, combined well with Charlie Brown to cause some real headaches for Grenfell.
Yabbies won 45 to 5.
Three points went to Riley Turner, two toTom Hurley and one point each to Connor Woods, Darcy Page, Will Munday and Jack Alcorn.
In the second game the Under 15s played Cootamundra, in which the boys kept up the same intensity and same game plan as the first game.
Workhorses Darcy Page and Jack Alcorn were in everything as usual.
Great lead up work from Ben Hegyi put Alex Chapman into the gap to score his first try for the year.
The look in Chappo’s eyes, we can tell it is just the start of many more for the 2013 campaign for the Yabbies!
The boys went on to win 86 to nil. A great effort by all.
Three points went to Charlie Brown, two to Daniel Parker and one to Ben Hegyi.
