The Year 12 student was named the regional winner ahead of two others at the 2013 Regional Training Awards at Wagga’s Capital Entertainment Centre last Thursday.
He was initially up against 12 others from around the Riverina vying for the NSW spot before judges narrowed their decision down to three.
Aidan now joins finalists from 13 other regions in the running for the state award which will see him interviewed in July in Sydney.
The winner will be announced at the state finals of the NSW Training Awards on September 5.
Aidan’s careers advisor, Sue Matthew nominated him for the prestigious award.
“I nominated him because he is such a brilliant student,” Ms Matthew said.
“He has an academically rigorous HSC schedule, he’s combined three VET courses to complete in the one year – he is such an outstanding candidate,” she said.
“I’ve known him for the last six years and he’s always stood out, he’s very focused and very determined.”
Aidan will complete 16 units of study come the end of his Higher School Certificate – six more units than what is mandatory.
He has included three VET courses - Electrotechnology, Information Technology and retail (through a school-based traineeship with Donges Supa IGA) - in his studies.
He is also studying Industrial Technology – Multimedia.
Aidan hopes to join the Australian Defence Force Academy as an officer in the air force, studying to be an airfield strategic coordinator.
He also will be seeking to complete a degree in Information Technology at the University of NSW.
His key message to students is to choose what they enjoy, research pathways, and maximise their time at school.
