The Under 12s, 13s, 14s and 15s competed in the three day carnival and have come away with some very pleasing results.
It is at this time I would like to thank the coaches, managers and carers for the long months of training and three long days in the not so pleasant weather.
Thank you to the den mothers for the care of the children, to all the parents who attend the carnivals and help with whatever they are able to do, you help is much appreciated.
To our umpires, our very own Justine Ward who travelled down with us and then four that we had to have from Bankstown, couldn’t have done it without you.
To our hard working committee who sees that we get to these championships every year.
Finally to any one I may have not mentioned, thank you.
The 13s took State Age by storm literally as it rained heavily all day Saturday which saw teams play a slower type of netball.
All 10 girls adjusted well to the very wet conditions and it showed with seven wins from seven games and played like true champions.
The teams they played on the Saturday were Woolgoolga, Port Stephens, Leeton, Macleay, Inverell, Kurri Kurri and Blayney. With their closest game being against Inverell and winning by two goals.
The girls had a slow start to the day on Sunday and in a close one against Tumut losing by one goal.
The girls shook off this loss and came out bigger and better for the rest of the day.
On the Sunday they took on some great opposition in Tumut, Gunnedah, Sapphire Coast, Coonabarabran, Narrabri, Lower Clarence and Armidale.
The girls won the rest of the day easily and left them with six wins out of seven games.
Monday, the last day of the championships, saw the 13s take on some harder competition but they stood up and made all their hard work count.
The girls lost their first game in a very close tight game to Brunswick Bryon by one goal.
The team then took on Parkes, Lithgow, Glenn Innes, Dungog and Cowra.
The last game against Cowra was a brilliant game to watch and a credit to the girls and only losing by one goal in the last minute of the game.
A big congratulations goes to Emma Kelly, Claudia Graziani, Chloe Jones, Marylou Minehan, Trinity Trantino, Ashleigh Carroll, Shanae Hajsinger, Maddi Holland, Karlee Slater and Tiffany Penfold on your hard work, 100 per cent effort and outstanding sportsmanship on and off the court. You girls are an honour to Young Netball and the town of Young.
Thank you to Cheryl Minehan the manager on all her work for the weekend.
To Leanne Penfold thanks for all your great caring. To Kelly Slater a big thank you for helping to get the girls to this outstanding result.
A special mention to Rachel Douglas for all her hard work, before and during state age.
Coach Sharon Lyth
The results for the Under 12s – 12th in their division, Under 13s – third in their division, Under 14s – 11th in their division, and Under 15s – fifth in their division.
So as we can see we have every reason to be cheering for these four sides and they will be looking to better their results when we head to Campbelltown in 2014.
Netball will be in a break for two weeks.
The competition will recommence on Monday, July 15. So see you all then.
A special mention to The Young Witness who each week do a splendid job with our netball for the paper. Thank you.
Just a reminder to all that the Young & District Netball Association Presentation Night is being held on Friday, July 19 starting at 6pm. Tickets can be purchased from our treasurer Shelby Inwood on Monday, July 15 at the latest.
