Fun and informative night for women

The women enjoyed the opportunity to catch up as much as hearing the up-to-date medical information provided at the ‘Midlife – What’s it all about?’ event. 

This included a talk by guest speaker Jean Hailes gynaecologist Elizabeth Farrell AM from Monash University in Melbourne who spoke on menopause.

Event co-organiser, primary health nurse Kay Nash of Murrumbidgee Medicare Local, said Ms Farrell was as impressed with the event as the audience was with her. 

“She was very good, very informative,” Ms Nash said. 

Ms Farrell also gave a session with doctors at the Young District Hospital Friday morning.

Ms Nash said she and co-organiser Cathy Kerr of Murrumbidgee Local Health were overwhelmed with the response from women in Young.

 “The buzz was incredible - it was fantastic,” she said. “Most people said they would like another one at least twice a year.

“It was like a little hub of women all let out for the night, mingling and being social and having a great time while getting information as well.” 

Also speaking at the event was local general practitioner Fiona Gleeson who spoke on osteoporosis.

There were 24 information stalls, including Murrumbidgee Medicare Local medical students providing blood pressure checks, a breast nurse, CanAssist, a masseuse, financial assistance, meditation, Young Eyes, a beautician and NRG gym.

Gift bags were given out at the end of the night including goodies from Sharon’s Hairline.
