A.D. Tanner Constructions of Young will build a new multi-purpose hall, with associated pupil facilities and building services, and a specialised area for horticulture.
The company will also refurbish specialist learning areas for technology and art.
“It’s great, it’s pretty exciting,” said owner Adam Turner. “It’s great that a large job like that was able to stay in town.
“It will be good for local tradesmen and local suppliers.”
Hennessy principal Dr Peter Webster said the school was committed to serving its regional community.
“Hennessy was proactive in ensuring local businesses had an opportunity to tender for the project,” he said.
“With a well respected local company being awarded the contract we should see the money stay within our community.
“Adam Tanner is a builder with a fine reputation within our community and I feel confident that we will achieve quality facilities.”
Dr Webster said this significant building project would further develop and enhance Hennessy’s culture of high expectations and allow it to cater for all students.
He said the project would allow Hennessy to continue to build a ‘new-new’ school with contemporary learning facilities that would ensure students could prosper and grow.
“This will complete the Hennessy trilogy: great students, great staff, great facilities,” he said.
St Mary’s parish priest Father Richard Thompson said, “the project’s a symbol of the solid foundation that began over a century ago and gives us a lot of confidence as we face the future.”
Chair of the Hennessy Community Council Bernard Maloney said the Hennessy community supports the building program and the benefits that it will have for the students and the wider community.”
With plans processed by Young Shire Council and a construction certificate granted, Dr Webster said work should commence in the very near future, anticipating the total project would take 12-months to complete.
