The decision came at council’s last monthly meeting on December 18 upon the request of the Young Tourism Sub-committee.
Their first request was for council to obtain estimated costs for chain wire fencing spanning 300 metres along the northern boundary of Blackguard Gully in Young’s south east.
Their second, to seek costs to erect a security fence and lockable gate in front of the bridge at the Chinese Tribute Gardens that will match the area’s characteristics.
Councillor Ben Cooper asked at council’s meeting last month if an overall map and design was available.
Cr Brian Mullany, who is a member of the tourism committee, said an overall design for the Blackguard Gully fencing would come before council.
“There is a zig zag pattern…so [we will need to come to] some sort of compromise,” he said.
Council’s general manager Peter Vlatko also said a “definition” of where the fence will be located will come back to council, as will the costs.
“We’re fencing it (Blackguard Gully) off just to establish and protect the area from motorbikes [and] the human environment,” Cr Mullany said.
Councillors agreed to have a look at estimated costs for the work.
