And just three weeks into her new role Joanne Garlick is quickly finding her feet.
No stranger to the health industry, Ms Garlick’s 30 years’ experience in the health care sector will enable her to fulfil her management role at Young Health Service where she will be responsible for the management and leadership of Acute, Emergency, Surgical, Medical and Oncology Services and Community Health Services.
Since becoming a registered nurse in 1986 Ms Garlick has held senior management positions in Drug Health at South West Sydney Local Health District and 16 years in a number of management roles at the Australian Red Cross Blood Service.
During this time she led the Organ Donation team for NSW/ACT to save the lives of both children and adults waiting for organ transplants.
She also worked in conjunction with Mental Health Services in Western Sydney to improve outcomes of care for clients with substance-abuse issues.
Local Health Advisory Committee chair Heather Ritchie said she is pleased Young Health Service has filled the position.
“We’re very fortunate that MLHD has been able to recruit someone with such a terrific track record,” she said.
“Joanne is very personable, and I know all the members of the LHAC are looking forward to working with Joanne to meet the needs of our local community.”
Ms Garlick said her first priority in her new role is to ensure Young Health Service provides for the total health needs of individuals, patients, and the community.
“I’m committed to community engagement and meeting the expectations of the community on standard of care and service provided by Young Health Service,” said Ms Garlick.
