Five boys get Group Nine rep duty call

FIVE of Young’s finest junior rugby league players have been selected for Group Nine representatives duties at the 2012 Cluster Championships in Wagga in July.

The players - Casey Wall, Cam Smith, Jesse Corcoran, Jake Walker and Jack Stanley - were selected for a northern squad during trial matches at Junee on April 1.

They were up against around 100 other players from across a region covering Young, Harden, Boorowa, Temora, Cootamundra, Junee, Tumut and Gundagai.

After the northern squad took on a southern squad at Albury on April 21 - 18 players were selected for the Group Nine Under 14’s representative side. Among them were Casey Wall and Jesse Corcoran.

Blake Bailey and Jake Baker were chosen for the Under 13s team.

Jonty Langfield made it through to the under 12s Northern Development side.

All five boys will play in their respective age groups at the 2012 Cluster Championships in Wagga during July.

During this two-day tournament Group Nine will play three games against Group 20, Group 11 and Group 10 (consisting of players from Lithgow, Narrandera, Griffith, Walgett, Condobolin, Grenfell, Dubbo, Leeton, Cowra and Katoomba).

In the next eight weeks - in the lead up to the blockbuster showdown - the local players will travel to training at numerous locations throughout the Riverina

In addition to their weekly training schedules the sides will travel to Wollongong on Mother’s Day for a trial match against Illawarra and then a second trial game the weekend after against Group 20 in Temora.

While the boys don’t have much to say about their selection and impending tournament – they do admit they have learnt a lot from the trials.

“There were some big boys in the trial match but it was a very scrappy game with both sides making numerous mistakes,” Corcoran said.

“It was a tough game but as we got points on the board the match got easier,” Wall said.
