New officer joins ranks

COOTAMUNDRA Local Area Command welcomes two new probationary constables today after they attested from the NSW Police Force Academy in Goulburn on Friday morning.

Probationary Constable Ben McInerney joins Young Police Station while Probationary Constable Emma Webb joins the Cootamundra station.

They were among 310 students who attested in front of Police Commissioner Andrew Scipione who also presented them with a commemorative 150 Years of Policing pin.

The two probationary constables now have 12 months of on-the-job training program to complete while studying via distance education through Charles Sturt University before they are promoted to the rank of constable and graduate with the Associate Degree in Policing Practice.

Cootamundra Local Area Command missed out on securing a new officer during the last attestation ceremony in December 2011.

Constable Ryan Smart was the last probationary constable to join Young Police Station in February 2011.

The Southern Region received 26 new officers including four in Wagga, one in Albury and six in Griffith.

The Young Witness looks forward to introducing Probationary Constable Ben McInerney in a coming edition of the paper.
