But Detective Sergeant Stephen Radford of the Cootamundra Local Area Command (LAC) has no doubts he is more than capable of doing the job and doing it well.
Senior Constable Lake, who has moved to our fair town from Macquarie Fields, was handpicked to take the position with the Cootamundra LAC where he will utilise his skills and experience to benefit the local community.
He will be working in Cootamundra, Tumut and Young.
“I’d like to take the time to [officially] introduce the new Detective Senior Constable Mark Lake to the Cootamundra and Young communities,” Sgt Radford said.
“He is an experienced police officer from a busy city LAC (Macquarie Fields).
“As a previous winner of the Macarthur Rotary Police Officer of the Year Award and keen drug investigator, he will give it all he has got,” he said.
Senior Constable Lake has been introduced to the Cootamundra Detective credo of ‘Numquam Cede’ or ‘Never Give Up’ and is keen hit the ground running.
Ironically Senior Constable Lake, like Senior Constable Ricketts before him, is a keen footballer and is looking forward to taking part in community activities and events with his family.
Senior Constable Lake has brought a wealth of experience to the Cootamundra LAC, including 10 years at Macquarie Fields LAC which saw him spend five years in general duties, six months on the Domestic Violence Investigation Team, six months on the Proactive Team and four years in the Macquarie Fields Detectives Office.
In 2010, he was awarded the Macarthur Rotary Police Officer of the Year Award which incorporates Campbelltown, Camden and Macquarie Fields LACs.
Amusingly Senior Constable Lake was recently surprised on completing a vehicle diary that he had travelled over 300 kilometres in a shift - such a total he assured he was more likely to achieve in the number of traffic lights in Macquarie Fields rather than kilometres travelled.
“I left the Goulburn Police College in 2002 to take up general duties at Macquarie Fields Police Station [and] after 10 years of working at Macquarie Fields - it was time for me to move on and experience country policing,” Senior Constable Lake said.
Senior Constable Lake said he is looking forward to working with the Cootamundra LAC and the community.
“I was heavily involved in rugby league back in Campbelltown on the Board of Directors of the Western Suburbs Junior Rugby League, as a coach and referee, and I enjoy the occassional game of golf,” he said.
Senior Constable Lake is keen to hear from the community in relation to any information relating to drug supply and this can be done by calling the Cootamundra Detectives Office or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
