Phillip Charles Azzopardi, 28, applied for bail for charges of knowingly taking part in the supply of a prohibited drug, having stolen goods and possessing an explosive in a public place.
He appeared in court handcuffed and flanked by two police officers.
It is alleged police found 23.5 grams of amphetamine and more than 250 grams of cannabis leaf when they searched a Landsdowne Street address in the company of Azzopardi just after 2pm on Friday, March 7.
Police prosecutor Constable Steven Watterson argued in court Azzopardi should be refused bail based on the seriousness of the charges.
He noted the amount of amphetamine seized was “well and truly” above the indictable amount.
“There is a high risk he would reoffend if he were released,” he said.
Police prosecutor Constable Watterson said evidence seized from his residence, such as multiple mobile phones, served as a good indication that Azzopardi was involved in drug supply.
The court also heard a homemade pipe bomb was found at the Azzopardi’s house.
Azzopardi’s lawyer Rachel Power told the court if he received bail he would reside in Cowra with his mother and attempt to gain employment.
She said his mother was willing to lodge $5000 in surety on top of a further $3000 by his father.
Magistrate Dare rejected his bail application based on the strength of the case against him and the seriousness of the charges saying it was a “pretty strong crown case”.
His mother and partner were both present in the court room to hear magistrate Dare’s ruling.
Magistrate Dare adjourned the charges to Wagga Wagga Local Court, to be heard on May 7.
