Mickle meets hero, then passes her

At the Sydney Olympics Kim Mickle was a teenager collecting javelins for Australia’s national record holder, Louise Currey. On Thursday she finally managed to properly meet her hero in person. On Saturday night she broke her record.

The world silver medallist, pushed on by friendly rival Kathryn Mitchell, broke the 14-year-old national record held by Louise Currey (need McPaul) by three centimetres, throwing 6.83 metres.
