The Summer Reading Club encourages children and young people to discover great authors and illustrators of picture books, junior, young adult fiction and non-fiction, to foster a love of reading and develop ongoing multi-literacy skills during the long summer break from school.
State Libraries and the Australian Library and Information Association provide support with merchandise and marketing materials available to participants who register with their library.
Reading is an essential skill for everyone, and this flexible, fun and practical program enables children to select resources at an individual level and interest.
Coordinator of the local program, Carolyn Bone, was pleased with the interest again this year with 47 children taking part in the challenge to read 10 or more books.
“Participants were entered in a random draw to receive one of three tablets as a reward for their achievements, and all entrants are to be congratulated for their efforts,” she said.
All three winners enjoyed reading lots of different books in the school holidays, and were very surprised and excited with their bonus prize.
