Police issued a statement just after lunchtime on Wednesday confirming the man had been found at Wilpena Pound in the South Australian Flinders Rangers.
Despite heavy rain in the search area, police and State Emergency Service staff found the man just before midday on Wednesday about 150 metres from Second Lookout.
A police spokesperson said the man was cold and suffering from dehydration but had sustained no other injuries.
Police are still unclear how or why the man drifted off the trail.
The man, aged in his 60s from Victoria, left for a hike at Wilpena Pound on Tuesday morning and was last seen at the Wangara Lookout about 10am.
He failed to return at the expected time of 11am and police were called.
Police, local rangers and the SES commenced a co-ordinated search at 2.30pm Tuesday but called off the search about 4.30pm.
Emergency Service crews remained at the scene overnight, ready to resume the search at daybreak.
