The accolades keep coming for Australian writer Michelle de Kretser's 2012 novel Questions of Travel, which was named on Wednesday as one of 10 books shortlisted for the International IMPAC Dublin Award.

Questions of Travel is in fine cosmopolitan company with the other finalists: The Detour by Gerbrand Bakker (Dutch), Absolution by Patrick Flanery (American), A Death in the Family by Karl Ove Knausgaard (Norwegian), Three Strong Women by Marie NDiaye (French), Traveller of the Century by Andres Neuman (Argentinian), The Light of Amsterdam by David Park (Northern Irish), The Spinning Heart by Donal Ryan (Irish), The Garden of Evening Mists by Tan Twang Eng (Malaysian) and The Sound of Things Falling by Juan Gabriel Vasquez (Colombian).
De Kretser's fourth novel, about an Australian and a Sri Lankan who travel from home for different reasons, has already won the 2012 Miles Franklin Literary Award, the Prime Minister's Fiction Prize, the ALS Gold Medal and the Western Australian Premier's Prize.
In a review for The Guardian, British novelist A.S. Byatt praised "the originality and depth of this long and beautifully crafted book" and said, "It persists in the mind long after the last page".
The IMPAC Dublin Award is the world's richest for a single book in English, worth 100,000 euros, and given to a book nominated by librarians and chosen by a panel of five judges. Five of this year's finalists are translated into English and two are debut novels.
The winner will be announced on June 12.
