Our sincere thanks go to Barry Hambrook again for his outstanding support that makes running these events possible.
As always, the Young Golf Club conducted two independent competitions with one pre-Christmas 2013 competition and another competition running from the new year until the end of March, 2014.
In the first event before Christmas, the overall winners in an extremely close and hard fought contest were the team of Twomeys consisting of Marie Inwood, Shelby Inwood, David Brouwer, Penny Greaves and Mary Haughey, who finished on 38 points.
Runners-up were the team from Pet Nanny consisted of Joy McCormick, Cathy Johnson, Trish Miller, Tilla Davis and Trine Green who finished on 36 points.
Eye Q finished in third with the team of Mark Flanders, Mat Simmons, Mat Loiterton, Steve Dewar, Darren Green and Cameron Jones, also on 36 points.
Other teams that were very close to the top three teams were Young Tyrepower on 35 points and TLC on 34 points.
In fact, with only one round to go, any one of the top five teams could have taken out top spot.
In the new year event, the winners were Young Tyrepower who streaked away with it in the last few weeks of the competition to score an impressive 45 points.
In the end the Tyrepower team of Jim Glasheen, Robert Flynn, Peta Glasheen, Bob Carnley, Bob Stone and Darren O’Brien just kept scoring the vital bonus points in the last few weeks to show a clean pair of heels to the field.
Second place was filled by the same Twomey team that won the first competition with the notable addition of Peter Greaves to the ranks.
They secured 40 points closely followed by the team from Eye Q again coming into third spot on 39 points.
Highlighting how closely contested these events have become were the teams from Great Eastern Hotel comprising Peter Delahunty, Andrew Pratt, Lochie Pratt, Jim Delahunty and Cade Armstrong on 38 points from Hackers consisting of Greg LeStrange, Brady LeStrange, Pat Brodbeck, Mark Goodlock, Mick Barrett and Darcy Whinam on 36 points rounding out the top five teams.
Prizes are awarded each week to the top two teams and at the end of each competition to the top three teams overall.
Points are awarded each week to the top four teams as well as points for fielding at least three players and a bonus point for fielding four or more players each week.
So start organising your teams for next year, and ensure that your team has enough players to get those vital bonus points.
With the contests being so close, every bonus point is crucial to the final results.
Congratulations to all our winners and a big thank you to our sponsors Young Tyrepower for their ongoing and wonderful support of the daylight savings competitions.
Prizes can be collected from the Young Golf Club Pro Shop by contacting Phil Cartwright on 6382 1543, or 0417 659 425.
