The 17s took the challenge playing in a grade which had only three teams of the same age group - the rest were open teams.
This was not a challenge for the 17s where they were presented with an opportunity to continue to shine and show off their talent.
The 17s started off with a loss to the Bathurst 17s team in which they put up a great fight and in the end they realised this was not an impossible task and were up to the challenge Credit to Ally McIllhatton for her great defence and Jess Crisp for her top shooting.
Round two saw the 17s stick with their game plan and it showed as this was flawless - the pickups, intercepts and forced errors on the other team were thanks to Ashleigh McInerney and Katelyn Smith-Nicolls on the centre court.
From the third game on, we just continued to see excellence from the players, using their game plays and putting the goals in.
Each individual needs to be mentioned for their excellent skills from the weekend as they continued to work hard to strive for runners up position.
The team consisted of Isabella Grazaini, Nikala Park, Ashleigh McInerney, Ally McIllhatton, Emma Deighton, Bridgette Penfold, Chelsea Anderson, Katelyn Smith-Nicolls, Roshan Smith and Jessica Crisp. Each and every player is to be congratulated on their efforts whether it be for their outstanding defensive skills or their shooting.
Player’s player for the Young carnival was Ally McIllhaton and player’s player for the Forbes Carnival went to Ash McInerney.
The 13s played seven games and the team includes the following players Annie Turner, Emily Poulton, Ellie McGrath, Jessica Stanley, Sammy Hambrook, Lara Cummings, Gemma McAlister, Hannah Barrett, Helena Trantino and Sophie Mewton.
Game one - Young versus Tumut -the game flowed down the court with the girls working together as a team at half-time Young leading 5 to 3. All players played using firm passes, attacking and defending to their advantage. Full-time Young won 13 to 4. Excellent win.
Game two - Young versus Temora. A loss for the team but they never gave up. Half-time score saw Young done by six but a great fightback in the second half saw the final score Young 1 Temora 8.
Game three - Young versus West Wyalong. A win for Young. Half-time the 13s were in the lead by 4. The girls all worked well together. Court time was used well with Young being the dominant team. At full time a great win with Young 13, West Wyalong 3. A very good game.
Game four - Young versus Bathurst. The first half of this game was very close indeed with Young using their skills and abilities working together well as a team. Half-time Young 6, Bathurst 9. This was the closest game Bathurst had so far in the competition. Young demonstrated that fighting spirit and never gave up. Full time Bathurst 18, Young 7.
Game five - Young versus Parkes. A win for Young. The team had their mojo back and at half-time was Young 5, Parkes 1. All players played well using their court time to their advantage. Well played by all the team. Full time score was Young 11, Parkes 3.
Game six. Young versus Condobolin. This game was very tight with a close first half as the girls worked hard to stay on their player, defend and attack. At half-time Young 4, Condo 5. The second half was up and down the court, attacking defending and shooting, the whole game had onlookers waiting in anticipation for Young to follow through, but full-time came and the score was Young 8 and Condobolin 9. What a game.
Game seven - Young versus Yass - an 8-all draw. What a game! The last game was excellent teamwork. Firm passes and intercepts with the shooters doing great. Goal for goal.
Well done to all the 13s who played to the best of their ability and achieved their goals. Congratulations on a job well done. Wins 3, ties 1, losses 3 but some really close games. Looking forward to watching next carnival in Orange.
The 14s had a very slow start to the day with a very sloppy and uncontrolled game against Tumut. The girls had too many turnovers and were lacking in discipline and ball control which saw a 3 goal loss.
But after some discussion the 14s turned the day around with some great wins and showed why they are an outstanding team.
The greatest game of the day was against Bathurst who were in fifth in Division 3 at State Age last year.
Everyone knew it was going to be a tough game against a tall and focussed opposition.
The first half saw Young struggle a little with the height and down by two at the whistle.
But the fighting spirit came through and the girls adjusted to the height and played to their strengths, their speed and defence.
Overall after a shaky start to the day, the team ended on a high and were a force to be reckoned with. Great work 14s, keep it up.
