During his premiership, Mr O'Farrell made no secret of the fact he was a mad rugby league fan, in particular of his beloved Wests Tigers.
And now that he unexpectedly has a bit more time on his hands, Mr O'Farrell was quick to spruik his credentials to take on a role with the national rugby league team on Thursday morning.
"a new career? #rugbyleague @nrl," Mr O'Farrell tweeted, alongside a photograph of himself wearing a green and gold Kangaroos blazer that appeared to be from the 2013 Rugby League World Cup.

There was no whining here.
Mr O'Farrell did not specify whether he was looking for a behind-the-scenes gig or was vying to take on the scrum, perhaps a role he has become accustomed to in the past few days.
Earlier in the morning, Mr O'Farrell sent his first tweet since his shock resignation after being caught out over a $3000 bottle of wine.
It gave no hint of the torturous few days he had experienced.

"the view from Macquarie Street suggests another great Autumn day for Sydney," he tweeted, alongside a photograph of the view outside his office.
The former premier was receiving plenty of support on social media for his light-hearted comments.
"@barryofarrell nice to see you've still got that sense of humour! Didn't vote for you but came to respect you a lot. Thanks for everything," wrote @TheAviator1992.
@Andyo26 wrote that that Mr O'Farrell's resignation was a "smart move considering your Tigers are flying. More time to go to games now".
