Concerns were raised regarding the 99-year inter-code agreement that currently sees country greyhound clubs in NSW earn 20 per cent of TAB wagering revenue, of which only 13 per cent is given back to the clubs to fund meetings, prize money and development. 

The inquiry handed down its report on Friday, March 28, finding the industry may be unsustainable in NSW unless changes are made to its structure and revenue sources. 

Committee member and greyhound owner Ms Prest believes the findings are a step in the right direction.

“I’m very happy, the parliamentary inquiry committee really knew all about greyhound racing,” Vicki said. 

“They were really on top of it - which surprised me.” 

But it’s only the start, with the second inquiry to be held in June.

That one will determine the fate of the inter-code agreement. 

The inquiry recommended the industry be brought within the jurisdiction of the corruption watchdog, and that the selection process for members of Greyhound Racing NSW be reviewed. 

The committee also stated that “GRNSW needs to have greater accountability. To this end, the committee said that ICAC should have authority to investigate the greyhound racing industry and GRNSW should be placed under their oversight (Recommendation 4).”
