“It was non-stop all day,” Young and District Multicultural Association secretary Helenie Carmody said of their stall at the first Lambing Flat Chinese Festival.

It was the first time the association had set up a market stall at a major event in town and what came of the April 12 festival in Anderson Park was what they least predicted.
With the presence of Chinese cuisine unexpectedly limited to festival goers, the association’s stall was inundated with orders for their Chinese and Filipino dishes.
“We kept running out… the Chinese food (supplied from a local Chinese restaurant) had to be brought over continually,” Helenie said.
“It was a great response.”
The association watched as people, who ordered their cuisine for lunch, returned for dinner, while others visiting the shire ordered their meals to go for the trip home.
And overall, what stood out for Helenie was the great cooperation from the dozen or so multicultural association volunteers who helped out at the stall.
“We were very happy how the day went. I hope we can do it again in the future,” she said.
