Junior ‘Pickers take on Coota Bulldogs
The Corbutts Tyre Centre Under 10 Cherrypickers had a very exciting 16-all draw against a massive Cootamundra side on Saturday.
The visitors seemed to steamroll the junior ‘Pickers early on but when they ran out of puff, pocket dynamo Brock Sing ran 60m the scored a fantastic solo try with Lockie Pratt converting.
After the restart Lockie Pratt scored another long range try to keep the visitors in reach with Brock Sing converting to make the score 12-12 with Cootamundra on the attack after an error off the kick off.
Some great defence from Locke Croker, Sam Graziani, Jack McIllhatton and Corie Lucas kept the opposition at bay for three sets of six before the finally crossed to lead 16-12 with only minutes to go.
In an exciting finish Lockie Pratt scored his second try for the day to lock up the score but the goal kick went wide and the score finished 16-16.
Once again Young’s little men Charlie Croker, Brodie Apps and Abe Forbutt were strong in the middle, with the big boys running at them all day.
Josh Noakes was outstanding, taking the ball up strongly and really led from the front. Dallas and Joey were rock solid in the engine room and we can’t forget Clay Sing out in the backs. Clay made at least two try-saving tackles and was always willing to take the ball up and take on the defence. A great effort boys. Keep it up.
In a great game of football with both teams playing well, the Under 11s came out on top 20-0.
The score doesn’t represent how close a game it was. It was only the outstanding tackling and defence that managed to keep Coota scoreless.
The boys played the game hard and fair and are a credit to themselves.
Tries went to DJ Maloney and Charlie Corcoran (2) and the try of the day went to Kai a Langfield after a perfect pass from M Noakes.
The forwards were yet again in great form and the tackle of the day went to Will Steed.
Player of the match went to C Corcoran who leads the team well and tackles like a front rower.
