Her grateful reaction follows a CanAssist fundraiser at the Young Bowling Club on Saturday night where organiser and Young woman Louise Livermore raised $2578.35 for the charity.
And on Thursday night, the Young District Anglers donated $1000 to CanAssist’s cause.
“With efforts of people like Lou and the Young District Anglers, I’ve never seen such an explosion of fundraising - I don’t know if there’s more of a need or if more people are hearing about what we do but it’s great we’re able to assist people,” Gail said.
“When it costs $400 per month to go to a pharmacy and $400 a month for other treatments, it doesn’t take long [for the money to run out],” she said.
Louise said CanAssist was a charity close to her heart, saying it was “good to support a charity that does so much for the local community”.
She hosted hair colourings and head shaves on Saturday night, starting from 4pm and lasting long into the night, which included well known locals such as Young’s mayor Stuart Freudenstein and local newsagent Ted Loader.
One woman from Grenfell was able to be persuaded into shaving her head except her fringe when she generated more than $400.
There was also an auction which added to the funds raised.
