Although not quite mid-way through the season, the sides need to put a few solid games together to build consistent performances.
Following a narrow four-goal loss to Orange – who are one of the title favourites – the Saints put in a huge effort to defeat the D’s to the tune of 99-46 in dower conditions.
Our 18s won on a forfeit.
Apart from a slack goal kicking display in the first quarter (Young kicked two goals, 10 behinds), and an early period of ill-discipline, they regrouped and played some rather entertaining wet weather footy.
The forward line got over their sluggish start and with Ben McInerney at centre half forward providing himself in good attacking positions inside 50 metres, gave himself some great scoring opportunities.
Kai Frame and Anthony Webb with their experience helped the forwards take the ball towards goal.
Chris Thompson put on a rather entertaining athletic performance up front which was a popular talking point after the match and at training on Tuesday.
Ethan Cummins and Luke Simms rotated the ruck brilliantly and hardly lost a ball up all afternoon.
Sam Herzich, Cameron Elsley and captain-coach Rob Harrington, along with Under 18s Jarrod Pope, Zac Callaghan, Ethan Silk and Jack DeBritt, put on a fantastic attacking brand of footy. This combination of youth and experience is really starting to take effect.
Once again the back line stood up and for the second game in a row Drew Morris and Rodney Doolan continually turned defence into attack, and along with Stewarts Jewellers best on ground recipient Joel Griffin, gave the Dubbo attackers not much in their forward 50.
The club as a whole would like to thank our committed supporters for braving the elements and helping the lads get the lollies.
Our PJ’s volunteer of the day award went to Garry Anderson who continually gives his time to be our goal umpire. Thanks Gazza.
This week is a general bye and our next tussle is against arch rivals Cowra at Munyan Oval on Saturday, June 14, for which there is a bus for players and supporters at $10 a head. If anyone is interested they can enquire at the Young Hotel or ring Geoff on 0457 341 719.
