Melbourne based filmmaker Matthew Holmes said as kickstarter project, they had until July 7 to reach their funding goal or the project will collapse
He said they had just passed the half-way mark.
Matthew said the film would be a great opportunity to put Young and surrounding towns on the map.
“Hall and lots of other members were from this area, selling cattle to the miners on the goldfields in Lambing Flat” he said.
“I’d love to be able to show the film at the local cinema.”
He said he hoped the film would be released around the 150th anniversary of Ben Hall’s death next year and any pledge would help.
“Most Australians don’t realise just how prolific Ben Hall was,” Matthew said.
“The exploits of Ned Kelly pale in comparison to Hall’s. This is an amazing true story just begging for a cinematic adaption. I’m certain our film will thrill, shock and surprise many people.”
Matthew said the film will be, “a gritty action spectacle and a powerful human drama.”
The half-hour biopic will concentrate on the last few days of the bushranger’s life.
Matthew, who has long been fascinated with bushranger culture, said he hoped the project would lead to the production of a full length feature he has already written the screenplay for.
Holmes plans to hold the world premiere in the heart of Ben Hall country, Forbes NSW.
Forbes Shire Council were yesterday announced as producing partners for the film.
Pledges can be made on Kickstarter at www.kickstarter.com and searching for Ben Hall.
