Mayor Stuart Freudenstein officially launched the 63rd National Cherry Festival before a keen crowd of Cherry Festival committee members, business sponsors and cherry queen candidates on Wednesday, July 11, at the Young Visitor’s Centre.
This year the committee have decided to help with the national celebrations of ‘Australian Year of the Farmer’ by making it the theme for 2012.
Young Shire Council’s marketing officer Claire Myers said the theme allowed the community to recognise the contribution of the whole of Young Shire’s farming community, but still keep cherries at the forefront of the celebrations.
